Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams

Imagine

Some people give up on their dreams before they materialise because making them a reality is challenging on many different levels. The hardest part is getting started.

Start Where You Are

Newton’s First Law of Motion states that, “An object either remains at rest or continues to move in the same direction unless acted upon by an external force.” That object is you. So, if you want to change the course of your life and fulfill your dreams, you need an outside force to set you in motion.

Get Constructive Feedback

One of the most effective forces to get you going is feedback. Feedback is useful for increasing your self-awareness. It can also help you reconcile what you already know about yourself with what those around you know about you.

However, feedback can be discouraging and soul-destroying, especially the insensitive, unsolicited type. A sad fact of life is that people around you are more prone to talk about you behind your back or give you endless suggestions on what you could do better in every area of your life. This can leave you feeling worthless rather than empowered. It is the quickest way to bring you to a grinding halt and can stop you sharing your dreams with other people. What you need is constructive feedback from two or three individuals who you trust and admire. They resemble the stranger who politely points out that you’ve got food stuck between your teeth. Embarrassing as this may be, you find yourself feeling grateful for their honesty in telling you before anyone else saw it.

Stay Focused

You will encounter a lot of problems and obstacles on your way to achieving your dreams but stay focused. Obstacles are inevitable but don’t use them as an excuse. Chris Burke, an MLB player known for his versatility, once said, “I have a motto on my bedroom wall: ‘Obstacles are what you see when you take your eye off the goal.”

So, don’t give up on your dreams because they matter.

They define who you are and enable you to use your strengths, gifts, abilities.
They are the reason you were created so that you can contribute positively to humanity.
They will help you live a “purpose-full” life. Everything that exists was created for a purpose, including you.
Don’t Fear Failure

Instead of fearing failure, think of it this way; each failure leads you one step closer to success. Seth Godin said, “It takes about six years of hard work to become an overnight success.”

Here’s a scary thought, if you don’t work on your dreams, someone will use you to make theirs a reality!
